Carer Payroll
Carer Payroll Explained
Carer payroll is simply paying carers the money they’ve earned. This includes calculating their wages, taking out taxes, and making sure they get paid on time.
What’s involved?
- Keeping track of how many hours carers work and what they earn.
- Calculating their pay and taking out the right taxes.
- Paying carers on time.
- Following tax rules.
- Helping carers save for retirement.
- Paying carers when they’re sick or on holiday.
It can be tricky to do this yourself, so many people use payroll services to help.
Do you receive Direct Payments?
Direct payments are a way for people who need care and support to receive money from their local council instead of the council arranging care services for them. This gives people more control over their care.
How it works:
- Assessment: You need to be assessed by the council to determine your care needs.
- Direct payment: If you’re eligible, you’ll receive a set amount of money to use for your care.
- Your choice: You can use the money according to your support plan to meet your needs.
Important to know:
- You’re responsible for managing the money and employing any carers.
- There are rules about how you can spend the money.
- The council can offer support with managing the payments.

How often will my carer be paid?
We can pay staff weekly, every two weeks, every four weeks, or monthly. However, if you use money from the council to pay your carers (Direct Payments), you can usually only pay them every four weeks or once a month.
